I slept horribly last night. Partly because caffine is a bad idea at like 8:30 at night. Over winter break I ate espresso cake for dessert when out with Jason Carly and Julia and then I could not sleep for the life of me that night. Anyway, I tossed and turned from about 1 to 3. Then I gave up trying to sleep and read until about 4:15, turned off my light and tried to sleep, couldn't, turned my light back on and finished my book. I think I finally got to sleep around 5:15 or so. But then I woke up at like 8 and did more tossing and turning until 9:30. I was going to bike if it wasn't raining. It's not raining, but I feel like crap and I have a slight headache, so biking is not going to happen. Hopefully I'll be up to running after class. I need to get to bed early tonight if I want to do well in my race Saturday.

I'm looking forward to this weekend, though.

My Brother Loves Me

March 26th, 2007 (12:02 am)

K: I have a request
M: yes?
K: please don't do anything just because you are somewhere
M: i know
M:i decided to because otherwise if i go abroad i will turn 21 in ireland and i didn't want the first time i drank to be with people i didn't know
K:that's good
K:what about the smokings, though. You know this makes me sad
M:i know
that was like when joni smoked those mochichos or whatever that was upsetting
i wouldn't do that
but the pipe was part of the healing ceremony
and i would never ever do it again because it was gross
K: yeah, i understand the ceremony part
good, I am glad
M: okay
i don't want you to be upset with me
i myself had a hard time decided whether or not to
if it had just been like "let's all smoke a pipe" i would not have done it
K: well, that's good.
7:10 PM
K: you know that going along with peer pressure isn't good
M: i do know that
K: that kind of thinking gets me really upset when I see my friends doing something that I thought they would not do
M: yeah i know, i'm the same way
like i expect the best in people and then i find out something they do and i'm like "oh" so disappointed but secretly
K: preCISEly
goods, i am glad we had this chat
M: good
i'm glad to know you look out for me
but you don't need to worry, i'm a good kid
K: I become afraid when the people I like go away for a week with a bunch of people I don't know
I do know that
so, good. this makes me happy.
M: i'm glad
K: now, you have to eat mac + queso

So. Today was nice. My classes are generally good so far, although I think my non-literature ones have the potential for me to not care at all. My Modern Fiction professor said on Monday, "I know in a big lecture it's hard to get to know people so I want you to introduce yourself to the people around you," and so I met a boy named Brian who seems nice and I talked to him again today. It's always good to have someone to sit with/talk to at the beginning of class. At lunch I ran into Czulak and he was eating by himself so I joined him and we had a good talk. Out of the 4 bike boys, I'd say Czulak is my favorite; he's very genuine, cares about what you have to say, and asks you questions about yourself. Monday I saw Paul as I was walking to class and we exchanged pleasantries and such and he said, "Maybe I'll stop by later and we can catch up." I'll admit I was disappointed that he never came. He has such a positive view of everything and he's so intelligent that I feel like he would be good to have a conversation with beyond simply, "Hey, how's it going?"

I think I'm growing as a person. I'm much more emotionally stable than I've been in the past.

New Year's Resolutions

January 2nd, 2007 (02:23 pm)

Although New Year's is a sort of "eh" holiday for me, I do enjoy starting over.

Resolutions:
1) Keep running road races
2) Waste less time on the computer
3) Utilize the UMass and West Side libraries more
4) Stop pulling out my hair (this is a resolution probably 4 or 5 years running, we'll see how it goes)
5) Start following a healthier eating/snacking schedule

To Do for UMass:
1) Buy Dean's Book
2) Read Dean's Book
3) RA Application
4) Ireland Application
5) Go to ComCol advising and find out about Capstone options and whether I should switch to Departmental Honors instead of ComCol Honors

To Do for Mexico:
1) Finish quilt
2) Print up raffle tickets
3) Get Hepatitis A immunization
4) Talk to priest at St. Thomas to see if I can get something put in the bulletin
5) Set up one of those fundraiser websites and send out e-mails? (maybe)

I decided that it's a bad idea to look back. The past only just makes you sad and the things that bother you are things that no one else even remembers because they only mattered to you. So I guess my sister and I can talk more about things now but I still feel like I'm this secritive person who can't find it within herself to really say what she wants to say to people. If you're reading this and you think it's about you... it isn't.

I think Women's Studies is having a good effect on me. Not only did I go to that "Gaping, Gawking, and Staring: Living in Marked Bodies" thing, but I also went to the Vagina Monologues and I think I might go to this thing called "Good Jewish Girls Gone Bad" that's happening Wednesday in the Campus Center. I like going to lectures and presentations and just learning new things. It's a better use of my time than TV.

I wish it were summer. Or at least Spring Break. I want to sit outdoors and appreciate nature and make crafts and do cartwheels. The other day I sat by the campus pond and just watched the geese and ducks and read for a little while because it was so nice out. When the weather is nice I can't help but skip back up the hill from class and I get so giddy and I just have to go running right away or else I feel like I've missed out on something important. And the funniest part is when I'm walking up the hill and a few of my steps can't resist turning into skips and then later I look behind me and there are like three people there. Hahaha.

I need more literature in my life.

On that note, I'm going to go read.

I love my mom.

January 25th, 2006 (10:23 pm)

My mom is so cute. I love her. Like tonight when I got home I asked her if I could get my new Duncan Sheik album out of her car and she said "Aww I knew you were going to ask me that. I was hoping you'd let me keep it for tomorrow. It's good!" I like it when my mom likes my music. She made a banana bread too! I love banana bread. Last night we were both brushing our teeth in the bathroom and she was acting like a 14-year-old and I said "Mom you're so weird" and she said "I know! I feel like I want to have a tickle fight!" In conclusion, she's crazy but I love her.

Spring, where art thou?

January 22nd, 2006 (10:43 pm)

I wish it were spring. Gray Days make me grumpy and unmotivated. On Gray Days I want to do nothing but lie on the couch all day long until the gray passes me by. Spring is so much happier and it's so lovely. Everything is lush and green and alive. Even when it's just starting it's nice. The crocuses pop up in my backyard from the holes in the snow and then you know spring isn't too far away. It's too bad I'll be at school when it's crocus time. Usually when that happens I like to go sit on the patio bench and do my homework. That sort of weather is also wonderful for running. You can't decide whether it's too cold or too hot so you wear long sleeves and shorts and then your elbows sweat but your legs get all red from the cold. It's fantastic. I look forward to sun and walks and beautiful runs and tree-climbing and reading on the hill. I think maybe the worst part of winter is the dirty snow. I hate seeing those sad little snow piles on the lawns whose edges are crusted with dirt.

But then comes spring! And after spring comes summer, when you can put on your bathing suit and bring the cd player outside and listen to lovely music while reading in the warm sun. You lie on your towel but you have to move every so often so you don't kill the grass where you were laying. Winter's nice at first, but I'm tired of it. I miss you, spring.

I just saw Memoirs of a Geisha. That movie was wonderful. I cried three times. And now I'm in a mood of calm sadness because of it. Plus I'm listening to the song Casimir Pulaski Day which just reinforces the mood. It's so sad and beautiful. I know it sounds lame, but that's what I feel: a beautiful sadness. That's all. I'm going to go eat some pie.
